Privacy Policy

Clarity was built on trust. This document explains exactly what we collect, what we never touch, and why your most vulnerable moments are safe with us.

Our Core Promise

The raw, unfiltered messages you write in Clarity — your real thoughts and feelings — are never stored, never transmitted to our servers, and never seen by anyone, including us. Your partner only ever receives the translated version. That's not a feature. That's a foundation.

1. Who We Are

Clarity is developed and operated by Jeremy Hulce, an independent developer ("we," "us," or "our"). Clarity: Couples is an emotional communication app designed to help couples express themselves more clearly. Our website is getting-clarity.com.

2. What We Collect

We collect only what is necessary to make Clarity work:

Never stored. Never transmitted. Ever.
  • Raw messages you write before translation
  • Any content entered during Crisis Mode — nothing is stored, ever
  • Anything from the Presence system (haptic heartbeat) — it leaves no trace
  • Your location
  • Your contacts
  • Any biometric data
  • Any device identifiers beyond what Expo requires for push notifications

Crisis Mode is always free and always private. Nothing you share in Crisis Mode is stored anywhere — not on your device, not on our servers.

4. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to operate Clarity. Specifically:

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising. We do not share your data with third parties except as described below.

5. Third-Party Services

Clarity uses the following trusted third-party services to operate:

Supabase
Our backend database and authentication provider. Stores your profile, pairing, translated messages, and shared content. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
Anthropic (Claude API)
Powers the emotional translation engine. Your raw message is sent to Anthropic's API for translation and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. Raw messages are not stored by Clarity after translation.
RevenueCat
Manages subscription billing and entitlements. Handles your App Store subscription securely. We do not store payment information.
Expo (EAS)
Powers push notifications and app delivery. Your push token is used only to notify your partner of activity within Clarity.

6. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile and all associated data are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

If you use the Partner Reset feature (to start fresh with a new partner), your relationship data — pairing, messages, Be Sweet notes, Shoebox, and partner information — is cleared immediately. Your own profile, communication preferences, and subscription are preserved.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To make a request, contact us at the email below. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under GDPR including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

8. Children's Privacy

Clarity is designed for adults in romantic relationships. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the age of 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you through the app before the changes take effect. Continued use of Clarity after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
